Fullbore Lite April 2024 - A glimpse into our world of Aston Martin

Welcome to FullBore Lite and a glimpse into our world of Aston Martin. Now over 30 years of trading, Nicholas Mee & Co continues to evolve, improving its offerings and services to the Aston Martin community. In this issue we are pleased to share information of new stock additions and a few musings, as we enter this motoring season.

Mee Speak

A by-product of having been in the Aston Martin business so long, is that cars frequently come back, after long term ownership, to be resold. Assuming, of course, the owner/supplier relation remains intact. One recent example is a 1979 V8 Vantage supplied by Nicholas Mee to its first and last second owner, in 1985. Meticulously maintained and used sparingly, we were lucky enough to consign this car recently and found a new and worthy custodian, in a short space of time. There is something satisfying, not just a monetary reward, in this scenario. The new owner totally understood and appreciated the care and passion bestowed on this car from new and intends to continue keeping it in the same manner whilst in his ownership.

Unlike the everyman who knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing, Harry, the new owner, knows that a car with good history, in high quality condition and out of long-term ownership is often the wisest choice, even after the initial pain of paying a full figure for it, has passed. We couldn’t agree more.

In the evolving world of attempting to value cars, we have often wondered why some model values sit where they do, when measured against others. Take, for example, a ‘90s Vantage, the V550/V600 and its predecessor from the ‘80’s. A good low mileage V550, benchmarks at around £150k-200k dependant on mileage and history, whereas £250k- £400k is needed for a good 80’s or ‘X-pack’ V8 Vantage. With smaller production numbers, 550 / 600 bhp engines, in being more sophisticated and with excellent build qualities too, why is the later car less valuable than its predecessor? It does make one wonder.

An established classic, is this new into stock 1988 AM V8 Efi. A late model V8, to which we carried out significant refurbishment works, during 2016-17. One of only 42 built for the UK, coming to us from 34 years of single-family ownership. Classic motoring and consummate ground covering ability, in air-conditioned comfort. At NM&Co we love a good AM V8 and this is one.

To the point mentioned earlier, we are delighted bring you a stunning Vantage V550 for sale. Built late in the production run of just 239 examples assembled. Beautifully kept and meticulously maintained, this low mileage and concours standard example, finished in Antrim Blue, will satisfy even the most discerning of collectors and drivers alike.

Happy Cruising
