Description
1971 Aston Martin DBS – Restored and Upgraded
Finished in Black Pearl with original Black hide interior. This exceptional DBS, first registered in February 1971, has been subjected to a major restoration and upgrade, from its ‘as built’ specification, into what can justifiably be described as, an ‘Ultimate’ specification DBS.
Entering into the workshops of renowned Aston Martin engineers R S Williams Ltd, at the end of 2009, with just 36,750 miles having been recorded from new, a comprehensive programme of restoration and upgrading was planned and agreed with the then owner, which culminated in the completion of the formidable DBS, we are delighted to present for sale.
Dismantled, a comprehensive chassis and body restoration was carried out, before the aluminium body was bare metal painted in its current shade of Black Pearl. Whilst dismantled, all mechanical and electrical aspects were either restored, rebuilt, replated or replaced. The engine, originally to 4.0 litre specification reputedly delivering 280 bhp, received a complete rebuild to 4.7 litres capacity. Equipped with Vantage specification triple 48DCOE Weber carburettors, Vantage camshafts and revised ignition timing, whilst being equipped to run on lead-free fuels. The RSW rebuilt engine, now producing a healthy 330 bhp and 335 lbs/ft of torque, is mated to a ZF 5 speed manual gearbox, fitted with a sports gear-shift kit.
The restored chassis was fitted with rebuilt and overhauled suspension and braking systems, a stainless steel exhaust system, new Chromed wire wheels and tyres fitted, the electrical system was also overhauled, including upgrades to headlamps and instrument lighting. The retained original Connolly VM8500 Black hide interior was also carefully treated and been well preserved.
Re-assembled, comprehensively road tested and de-bugged, the car was delivered to the then owner in 2011, after some £185,000, in total, was spent in restoring, improving and bringing this extraordinary DBS to the exciting and excellent standards and condition, as presented today. With 1 additional owner since the restorative works completion in November 2011, this attractively specified and potent DBS, has covered under 2,000 miles after restoration, bringing the total mileage from new to only 38,200 miles.
Offered complete with an original DBS Instruction book and comprehensive history file, including a factory build sheet showing early service history at Newport Pagnell, consecutive MoT certificates from 1978 onward demonstrating the low mileage, photography of the chassis and body restoration as well as a highly detailed copy invoice (RSW), clearly supporting the major restorative works and upgrades completed.
A revelation, this superbly engineered and restored 1971 DBS, delivers a major improvement in driver appeal, over a production standard DBS. Delivering both excellent torque and power, with a marked improvement to the well-balanced road holding and handling, the DBS model is well known for.
Supplied inclusive of a manufacturer scheduled service, detailed preparation, 12 months warranty and up to date MoT certificate.
