1998 ASTON MARTIN V8 COUPE #91 OF 101

Finished in one of the most desirable colour combinations for this model and benefitting from low mileage and a comprehensive servicing and maintenance regime, we are pleased to offer this superb ‘late model’ 1998 V8 Coupe.

The Aston Martin V8 Coupe adopted the styling cues and significantly, the chassis improvements of the flagship V8 Vantage 550 supercharged model, in an elegant and more subtly styled body. Built near the end of the coach-built era of car manufacturing, just 101 of the V8 Coupe's rolled off the Newport Pagnell production line, in total. Now highly sought after, the V8 Coupe is a Grand Tourer par excellence and is refined, with a luxuriously appointed interior, generous 2+2 seating and well-balanced body styling. Attributes, which when combined with the model’s effortless performance, give a superb Grand Touring experience.

Chassis number 79091 is one of the very last cars built, is distinguishable by the later style door mirrors and exterior door handles, as well as relocated powered seat switches. Finished in Rolls Royce Midnight Blue and complemented with Parchment and Pacific Blue Connolly hide interior. This excellent example much cherished by its 4 owners from new, is complete with a comprehensive Aston Martin service history, from the original supplying dealer onward, with services carried out by Aston Martin Works and highly respected AM specialists.

Purchased by its last but one owner from ourselves in 2017, an enthusiast and collector of the marque, more recently the car has been fitted with a new audio system and new set of tyres by surrey-based AM specialist’s. This particular car, has also been Immortalised and now features in the definitive AMV8 reference book, the 'Aston Martin V8’ by Palawan Press. More exclusive and refined, than both its Virage and V8 predecessors, the hand built and extreme low volume production V8 Coupe’s, warrant attention from enthusiasts and collectors alike. This late example is one of the finest we know and is in particularly excellent order, throughout.

Supplied with an extensive history file, including servicing and MOT records, a manufacturer’s build sheet and its original, 1998 purchase invoice. This car is supplied, fully prepared to our usual high standards, by our own Heritage technicians and is now ‘on the button’ ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.

Available now, for viewing and inspection at our showrooms in Hertfordshire.

2005 ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH S – MANUAL GEARBOX CONVERSION

This stunning, low mileage 2005 Vanquish S is rare to market, being one of circa 100 cars to have been converted to (6-speed) manual by Aston Martin Works Service.

Finished in the attractive colour combination of AM Titanium Silver over Phantom Grey hides, this 2005 model year example of Aston Martins then flagship car, was first registered in March 2005.

In addition to the usual Vanquish S refinements, additional optional extras specified with this car include; Grey brake calipers, body colour door releases, heated front seats, quilted headlining trim, heated front screen, powerfold exterior mirrors, rear parking sensors, SatNav and 2+2 seating.

In 2009, with a recorded mileage of 11,944 miles, the car was sent to Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell to receive its 6-speed, three pedal, manual gearbox conversion which was offered in response to the feedback of some owners who preferred the engagement a manual car provided, over the automated manual ‘paddleshift’ gearbox which was the standard equipment in the Vanquish S model.

Having covered just 18,100 miles from new, our pre sales inspection confirms that the car is in excellent condition throughout. The paintwork being unmarked and the interior still presenting and smelling like a new car!

The car boasts and excellent service record with 8 service stamps from Aston Martin Works and the last two services being carried out by a respected Aston Martin main agent. The new owner will receive the vehicle with a fresh service, to the manufacturers schedule, 12 months MOT and 12 months warranty.

2002 FERRARI 575M MARANELLO

Finished in the classic colour combination of Grigio Titanio over Bordeaux hides, we are delighted to offer this superb, reference example of Ferrari’s 575M Maranello.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2002, the 575M Maranello signalled a whole new level of achievement for one of Ferrari’s most traditional layouts – the V12 front-engined rear-wheel drive berlinetta.
Replacing the successful 550 Maranello, in essence the 575 was an uprated 550, built on the same tubular steel chassis but with a bigger and more powerful engine (575 being shorthand for 5,748cc) and other significant modifications signalled by the ‘M’ in the name, (‘M’ standing for Modificata). On top of its extra power – 515hp versus the 550’s 485hp – it had drilled and ventilated brakes with more servo assistance, different front to back weight distribution, better aerodynamics (mainly achieved by changes to the underbody) and electronically controlled adaptive suspension, along with a revised and improved interior.

During the four-year production run (2002-2006) a total of just over 2,000 575M’s were produced, for worldwide consumption.

The example, we are now pleased to offer, was first supplied by Maranello Sales, Official Ferrari dealer in Egham, Surrey in July 2002, finished in Grigio Titanio over Bordeaux hides with optional desirable ‘Fiorano’ Handling Pack along with satellite navigation and Scuderia Ferrari wing mounted shields.
Having recorded just 6,400 miles from new, in the hands of its 3 owners, this car presents in outstanding condition throughout, the exterior being unmarked and the interior unblemished.

Servicing has been carried out by Ferrari main agents and highly respected marque specialists, including its last, major, service by Bob Houghton in August 2022, less than 1,200 miles ago, at which time cambelts and auxiliary belts were changed, along with an interior ‘sticky switch’ refurbishment. A recent ‘Vehicle Health Check’ by Ferrari confirms the car to be fault free, ‘on the button’ and ready to be enjoyed, supplied with 12 months MOT.

The car is accompanied by its original owner’s manual, tool kit, spare keys, Ferrari battery trickle-charger, and book packs including the service book.

Available for viewing and demonstration at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

2017 ASTON MARTIN V12 VANTAGE S SPORT PLUS-PACK – MANUAL

We are delighted to offer to market this superbly specified, low mileage V12 Vantage S Manual, uniquely finished in (Q Special) Storm Black over Obsidian Black hide and Pure Black alcantara interior.

“It’s fantastic. It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful” said no other than Jeremy Clarkson, when summarising the original V12 Vantage model, in one of the most emotive motoring videos ever produced, for Top Gear, shortly after the model’s launch, in 2009.

Over the next 9 years, the V12 Vantage went on to be one of the most successful and respected Aston Martin models, appealing to existing customers of the marque and to a new and enthusiastic sports car audience. Following various improvements and model year specification changes, production of the V12 Vantage ceased in 2018, by which time the S specification model was introduced (in 2013) with the 563 bhp engine, mated to either a Sportshift III or 7-speed manual gearbox.

It is one of those ‘last of the line’ 2017 model year, 7-speed manual V12 Vantage S that we are delighted to offer. One of just 113 right-hand drive 7-speed manuals (100 UK specified and supplied) and interestingly, the only UK RHD example finished in this exterior colour, making it a ‘one of one’!

This Sport Plus-Pack (+ 5 BHP/ + 10Nm, Graphite silver Lightweight wheels, Alcantara dashboard and Alcantara Duotone interior) example is finished in Storm Black over Obsidian Black leather and Pure Black alcantara, with Spicy Red contrasting stitching and Spicy Red leather inner seat stripe, Obsidian Black carpets and an Obsidian Black alcantara steering wheel. The livery is completed by numerous (Q by Aston Martin) Red satin carbon fibre components; hood louvres, rear diffuser, side strakes, engine cover, front splitter and front grille surround. An eye catching and truly unique specification!

In addition to the usual high specifications of the V12 Vantage S model, notable optional extras chosen by the original purchaser include; Aston Martin 700w Premium Audio, Black hood meshes, Red brake calipers, Black textured tailpipe finishers, Piano Black fascia trim and Piano Black interior trim pack, V12 side fender badges, front grille carbon, Caron fibre gear shift surround, Reversing camera, Carbon fibre Lightweight seats and Black side window finishers.

First registered in June 2017 and benefitting from annual servicing at Aston Martin main agents, our pre-sales inspection confirms that the car is in excellent condition throughout, benefitting from PPF protection and will be supplied with our usual high standards of pre-delivery preparation, including a fresh service – to schedule, 4 new tyres, 12 months MOT and 12 months warranty.

Available for viewing and demonstration at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

2007 ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH S ULTIMATE - #45 of 50

‘Collector grade’ in all respects, we are delighted to offer this fabulous 2007 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish S Ultimate, car 45 of just 50 produced.

In February 2007, to commemorate the conclusion of production of the V12 Vanquish and, in fact, production of Aston Martins at the Tickford Street Works in Newport Pagnell, after 50 glorious years, Aston Martin announced that they would build 40 examples of the Vanquish S Ultimate Edition.

Customer demand was so strong, with the initial allocation being sold out within a couple of weeks from announcement, that production was increased slightly to 50 cars total, 20 in right hand drive and 30 in left hand drive configuration.

The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition was a fitting tribute to Aston Martins flagship car between 2001-2007, the V12 Vanquish and the team of skilled craftsman that build these groundbreaking, charismatic cars during that period.

The luxurious specification of the Ultimate Edition included coachwork painted a unique metallic black, ‘Ultimate Black’, described as black with a hint of red and blue, which was only available on the Ultimate Edition, along with discrete ‘Ultimate’ badges on the side strakes. Inside, the V12 Vanquish S cabin was trimmed in a semi-aniline leather, with coarse stitching, leather headlining and black chrome finish interior fittings. Each car was also be fitted with personalised sill plaques denoting its limited-edition number.
The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition, in our opinion is worthy of consideration for any Aston Martin enthusiast or collector as not only were they the very last of the timeless, iconic Vanquish, a car that will over time be considered as one of Aston Martins most important, ‘milestone’ models, much like its DB4 predecessor, but also a very limited special edition car, the only limited edition of the Vanquish, built.
The superb example we are now pleased to offer was originally supplied in September 2007 to its first owner by Aston Martin in Chichester, UK. Servicing and maintenance requirements were entrusted to the supplying dealer until 2022.

The incredibly comprehensive history file, supplied with this car, confirms that in total, 20 services have been carried out, with no expense spared! Most recently, in 2023, the car visited a highly regarded Aston Martin specialist for servicing along with preventative maintenance to protect the front subframe and other vulnerable components.

As one would expect, our pre-sale inspection confirms the car to be in outstanding, concours condition throughout.

In addition to the Ultimate Edition specifications, optional extras chosen on this car include grey brake calipers, body colour door release, front stone guards, bluetooth and 2+2 seating arrangement.

Supplied fully prepared and detailed, with 12 months MOT and 12 months warranty along with a custom fit Aston Martin car cover and battery conditioner.

Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

1987 Aston Martin V8 Efi

Finished in Salisbury Blue with Parchment hide piped Dark Blue and matching slate blue carpets.

Remarkably rare, this exceptionally original and much cherished Aston Martin V8, has undoubtedly benefitted from having had just 1 loving owner from new.

Unmodified and in superb condition, this much cherished AM V8 Efi (Electronic Fuel Injection) is 1 of only 42 UK specified production coupe’s manufactured and benefits from the continuous model development cycle, over the 20-year production lifespan of the AM V8.

Delivered new in January 1987 via West Midlands Aston Martin agents Chapman Spooner Ltd to its one and only owner, servicing and maintenance for over 15 years was entrusted to Chapman Spooner under the watchful eye of proprietor Andy Chapman, currently technical consultant to the Aston Martin Owners Club. After the closure of the Chapman Spooner business in 2003, servicing and maintenance has been carried out by the combined efforts of Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell and respected Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, local to the owner.

Built and supplied with the sequential electronic fuel injection, developed by Marelli Weber for the Aston Martin V8 engine and shared, with Ferrari and Ford for their Cosworth range. So equipped, the Aston Martin V8 Efi engine delivers improved power and gives a higher torque output than its carburettor equipped predecessor. Characterised, as giving smoother power delivery, improved starting, general driveability and markedly better fuel economy, than the earlier series of carburettor equipped AM V8’s.

Now almost 40 years since manufacturer, with concours awards to its credit, chassis restored and body bare-metal repainted, serviced regularly and lovingly kept, there are few examples of the AM V8 of this quality, with complete service and maintenance histories, in existence. Becoming increasingly difficult to source and bring to market, examples of the AMV8, in such an excellent condition as this, are rarer and rarer.

Description

2017 ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE GT8

We are delighted to offer this discreetly specified, ultra-low mileage, ‘as new’ example of Aston Martin’s race inspired sportscar, the limited-edition Vantage GT8.

Inspired and influenced by the V8 Vantage GTE race car, the GT8 was the lightest and most powerful V8 Vantage ever, when launched in April 2016. In addition to the dramatically sculpted, wide bodied carbon fibre bodywork and revised performance orientated chassis, the 4.7 litre V8 engine was upgraded to produce 440bhp. The GT8 was available with either the 6-speed manual or Sportshift III gearbox. This combined with the dramatic weight saving of up to 100 kg (depending upon options chosen), the Vantage GT8 boasted some very impressive performance numbers including 4.4sec 0-62mph and a top speed of 190mph.

Limited to just 150 cars worldwide, predictably all had sold out shortly after being announced in 2016. Just 80 were built for the UK RHD market, 68 of which were 6-speed manual specification.

Much admired by motoring journalists and road testers alike, the profile of this model was further cemented by Aston Martin securing class victory at the gruelling Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2017 in a ‘close to production’ specification Vantage GT8.

The GT8 we are now very excited to offer, is finished in the simple, restrained livery of Scintilla Silver with no ‘Halo’ Pack. The lightweight interior combines luxury fitments and creature comforts with carbon fibre and Pure Black Alcantara. Using data supplied by the Aston Martin Heritage Trust register, we can confirm that just 2 GT8’s were finished in Scintilla Silver, the other of which having Red accents and Chancellor Red stitching, therefore making this example a unique, ‘One of One’.

This manual transmission example was first registered in January 2017. Notable optional extras include: Gloss Carbon aero pack, Exposed Carbon Fibre lower, rear and side valances, Red brake calipers, Stainless Steel Exhaust system, Full length Twill Carbon fascia trim, Vantage GT8 logo headrest embroidery, Front grille carbon, Reversing Camera, Vantage GT8 decklid badge, Lightweight Carbon Fibre Manual seats and 7 spoke Satin Black wheels. A full build specification is available by request.

First supplied to its marque enthusiast owner in January 2017 by Aston Martin Chichester, servicing and maintenance has been carried out annually either by the same dealer or ourselves and having covered under 300 miles and having been protected by full body PPF, the car presents in ‘as new’ condition throughout.

Not only are these Vantage GT8’s rewarding and intoxicating to drive, with their racing heritage, normally aspirated engines combined with 6-speed manual gearboxes, one of the best exhaust notes of all time and very limited production numbers, the model certainly has all the right ingredients for future classic status. Our view? Possibly Aston Martins best ever ‘drivers’ car. Buy one now before they all disappear!

Supplied to its next owner, freshly serviced, to schedule, prepared to our usual exacting standards, with 12 months MOT and 12 months warranty along with a custom fit car cover and model relevant cherished registration number.

Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

1987 Aston Martin V8 Volante Efi

Finished in Royal Blue with Magnolia hide, piped dark Blue, complimented by a dark blue mohair hood, fitted by ourselves in 2021 and equipped with automatic transmission, Nardi wood rim steering wheel, sports suspension and AP braking upgrades. Also fitted are Vantage specification 16’’ polished ‘Ronal’ road wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, combining to improve both safety and overall performance.

First registered in 1987 and rare to market, the Aston Martin V8 Volante equipped with electronic fuel injection (Efi), was produced toward the end of V8 production for just 3 years and delivered greater power and torque, than its predecessors. Only 216 were built before production of the V8 ceased, with the majority configured in left hand drive for export to the USA, with only 44 built in UK Right Hand Drive specification.

The attractive example we are pleased to now offer, originally supplied by HWM of Walton on Thames, remained with the first owner for some 20 years. Maintained by Aston Martin Works and Aston Martin agents, prior to a bare metal re-paint, from Black to the Royal Blue and chassis restorative works being carried out. Supplied by ourselves to its last two owners, 2016 and 2021, the car has subsequently been much cherished and lightly used by its marque enthusiast owner who’s recent V8 Vantage X-pack purchase, prompts this sale.

Endowed with more power and torque than the previous generation V8 Volantes, the EFi is distinguishable in having a lower bonnet line than earlier Volante’s, allowing improved forward visibility to complement the enhanced performance.

Offered inclusive of a well-documented service history file, including all MOT certificates, service invoices and photo records of the bare metal repaint and chassis works. Now with a total of 53,000 miles covered, this highly attractive V8 Volante is being offered inclusive of full preparation, 12 months MOT, 12 months warranty, along with an extensive leather-bound history file, lambswool overmats and a custom fit bespoke car cover.

Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

Description

1999 ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE V550

Finished in arguably the most popular colour for the model, Antrim Blue over Parchment hide interior, piped Pacific Blue over Blue carpets, we are pleased to offer this superb quality Vantage V550.

A quintessential ‘Brute in a Suit’, the 1993-2000 Aston Martin V8 Vantage V550 was the last model produced entirely by hand at the Newport Pagnell factory, with a mere 239 examples being built before the factory being closed and remodelled, for Vanquish production. An anachronism of its day, the Vantage V550’s only rival, that could claim to offer the same level of luxury and performance, was Bentley’s Continental T, the most expensive production car of the day.

The V550 standard specification includes 8-way electric seating, climate control, ABS braking and drivers air bag safety features. Delivering 550 bhp the 5.3 litre twin supercharged engine drives a 6-speed manual gearbox and gives the car a 0-60 time of 4.6 sec’s and a top speed of 186 mph. Performance numbers that are impressive today, let alone over 25 years ago! All, whilst enjoying a sumptuous and generous 2+2 cabin trimmed in finest quality Connolly hides, Wilton Wool carpeting and highly polished burr walnut finishers.

This ‘reference’ example we are now pleased to offer, was built and delivered by Aston Martin Mayfair in April 1999, being within the last 10 cars to have been built and incorporating late build refinements including improved door mirrors, door handles, exhaust and cooling systems.

Boasting a superb service record with Aston Martin agents and ourselves, in total the car has received 26 services in its 25 year life! Invoices for which are contained in the extensive history folder and clearly demonstrate that no expense has been spared in the maintenance and upkeep of this car, which is supplied complete with all original hand books, tools, vehicle jack and factory build sheet.

Now having covered 25,140 miles from new, the exterior coachwork is virtually unmarked and the cabin remarkably well preserved. Supplied inclusive of a manufacturer scheduled service, 12 months Warranty and MoT certificate.

Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

Description

2004 ASTON MARTIN DB AR1 #001 of 099 – LHD

A fantastic, unrepeatable opportunity for any collector or enthusiast of the Aston Martin marque, this DB AR1, car 001 of just 99 produced, finished in the iconic colour of Aston Green over soft white hides and in immaculate condition, as befits just 939 miles from new.

Rekindling the long-standing association between the marque and Zagato of Milan, in 2003, Aston Martin unveiled the DB7 Zagato. This very special coupe was built as a strictly limited production run of only 99 cars, all of which were quickly sold. Due to homologation problems, the DB7 Zagato was not offered to the US market. To satisfy the demand created by the coupe a special ‘roadster’ version was styled by Zagato, using the standard DB7 Volante chassis to overcome type approval issues. Called the ‘DB American Roadster 1’ (DB AR1) the open model was built after the coupe and in fact final assembly was completed at the new Gaydon plant alongside the first DB9’s.

Again, just 99 cars were built, cementing the model as one of the marque’s rarest and most unique models. With distinctive coachwork, the DB AR1 was conceived for American market, however a very small number were supplied to the European market.

The DB AR1 used the standard 6.0 litre V12 from DB7 Vantage with Touchtronic transmission, capable of powering the car to 184 mph. Styling was very similar to DB7 Zagato with the same large grille and twin cowls behind the front seats tapering into the trunk lid, echoing the design cues of the ‘double bubble’ roof design from the coupe. Designed with a sunnier climate in mind, the DB AR1 had no roof or hood covering at all – just a simple rain cover to protect the leather interior when parked.

The example we are now delighted to offer, is particularly special, being number 001 of the 99 produced. First supplied new to the USA, via Aston Martin Agents in Dallas, Texas, in 2004, this car was imported to the UK in 2014, where it resides today. Enthusiast owned whilst in the UK and proudly entered into previous AMOC Concours Events.

Finished in Aston Green over Soft White hides, the car is complete with its tailored indoor car cover, battery conditioner, original DB AR1 book (signed by Carroll Shelby), leather bound history file, roof cover and two Aston Martin umbrellas. A model relevant cherished number plate also accompanies the car.

Offered in immaculate condition, having covered a mere 939 miles from new, this rare and beautiful car is ready to be enjoyed on the open road, or to grace any collection.

Available now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

THE Ex’ JOHN ETHERIDGE ASTON MARTIN DBR2 RECREATION

Built between 1988 and 1991, this highly detailed and professionally recreated DBR2 was the brainchild of the late John R Etheridge, an Aston Martin works Experimental Division engineer from 1956 onward and member of the race team.

Having wished for many years, since his time in the works racing department, to build for himself a DBR2, Etheridge’s opportunity came in 1990 when, with financial backing from F1 race entrants Safir Engineering, construction of this wonderful recreation started in the workshops of J. R. Etheridge Engineering Ltd, in Bushey Heath, London,

An original 1957 ‘Works’ DBR2, DBR2/2, maintained by Etheridge, was made available by the then owner, for detailed technical analysis and reverse engineering. A new tubular steel chassis, faithful to the original, was constructed and a new body buck made (included in the sale) enabling the aluminium body panels, to be fabricated. Built to the original configuration and keeping to the original design principles, including the use of Aston Martin parts, the completed car was first seen in public in 1991.

As with the original DBR2’s, the Tadek Marek designed Aston Martin DB4 engine, to 4.0 litre capacity, is fitted and carries a cylinder head identified with DP5057/2 stampings. DP5057 being the official engine project number for DBR2, the /2 denoting this cylinder head as being the second ‘project’ cylinder head, built up and fitted in 1957 to DBR2/2.

Commenting after inspecting the car in 1990, Ted Cutting, former Aston Martin Engineering Director 1949-1964, wrote to Etheridge, ‘you’ve done a great job. I’d go so far as to say that the car you’ve built, I’d have been proud to have done myself!’

The highly effective DBR2’s, of which only 2 were built, successfully raced in 1957 and 1958 as Works entries, with DBR2/1 and DBR2/2 being driven by Works drivers, Stirling Moss, Roy Salvadori, Tony Brooks and Paul Frere. With outright wins and new lap records set in Goodwood’s Sussex Trophy race, at Silverstone in the BRDC meeting and in the Empire Trophy race at Oulton Park during the ‘57 and ’58 seasons. Other races entered with the DBR2, included the Le Mans 24hrs in 1957. Retired from international sportscar racing by 1959, due to a new 3.0 litre engine size limit being imposed by the regulators, both original DBR/2’s were successfully campaigned by Carroll Shelby in the USA, before being sold off. Now in significant collectors’ hands, the two original DBR2’s are conservatively valued in excess of $20 million each.

This exceptional recreated DBR2, 1 of 1 built, was retained by Etheridge until 1995, when the car was sold to the late, racer and notable Aston Martin collector, Robert Leyba in Germany. Etheridge’s DBR2, forming part of Leyba’s sizeable collection, which at that time was the largest Aston Martin collection in Europe, was used occasionally on road events, before being sold at the inaugural Bonhams Aston Martin auction in 2000, achieving almost double the auctioneers estimate. The last owner, a Belgian collector, professionally stored and enjoyed the car occasionally, over the last 20 years.

UK road registered and carrying 1971 Aston Martin vehicle identity, this exceptional car is simply wonderful and fast to drive. Eligible for many historic road rally events and with some level of modification, could be made to comply with FIA HTP regulations, applicable for International historic racing. Finished in period Aston Martin racing green, the car is trimmed and finished in original and correct period materials and fitted with the correct period instrumentation, layout and switchgear.

Available for viewing now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.

Notes on the constructor, John R Etheridge (1941 -2014):

Etheridge’s credentials need little introduction, save to say that after serving his years employed in Experimental Division and racing activities of Aston Martin, he in 1963, at the personal invitation of John Wyer, joined Ford Motor Co’s highly successful Advance Vehicle Operations team, to build and race the all-conquering Ford GT40’s. A heroic story well told, in 2019 Hollywood blockbuster, Ford v Ferrari. Wyer always opined that John was one of his finest racing mechanics.

At the end of Fords GT40 racing programme, Etheridge teamed up with established race car manufacturer Safir Engineering and John Wyer’s automotive business in acquiring from the Ford Motor Co in Dearborn, a licence to build and further run 40 Ford GT40 MkV’s, now in collections worldwide.

In 1968 he set up his own company specialising in Aston Martins, Ferrari’s and the Ford GT40. His workshops always looked more akin to hospital operating theatres than any garage – such were his standards.

A strictly limited production run of 99 cars, for worldwide production, were built at Aston Martin’s production facility in Gaydon, England with just 32 for the UK RHD market.

Description

Developed from the renowned DB4 model, the DB4 GT was conceived and built by Aston Martin with international sports car racing and period ultimate road performance, firmly in sight.

Making its debut in 1959, a factory development prototype DB4GT (DP199) was prepared and raced in the Spring of 1959. Driven by Stirling Moss in a BRDC organised GT race at Silverstone, DP 199 recorded a notable outright victory on it’s first outing. Between 1959 and 1961, just 75 DB4 GT’s were produced with many being owned and driven in international sports car racing and the remainder kept for road use by their notable owners.

The DB4GT presented, Chassis DB4GT/0139/GT, was delivered new to its first Surrey based owner and thereafter regularly maintained by the manufacturer’s service department at Newport Pagnell, before being sold on after 17 years of single ownership to Aston Martin enthusiast Ian Warrener of Powys in Wales. Passing through 3 further owners before being sold to the USA in the early 1980’s. Returning to the UK in 1989 to new owner Philip Cowan of St Andrews in Scotland. Purchased by the last collector owner in 2006, this DB4GT was entrusted to renowned Aston Martin specialist engineers R S Williams Ltd, for restoration. Completed in 2008, the car was used on a tour to southern Spain and has subsequently been used on outings in the UK. Garaged in a de-humidified environment when not in use, the car has only 5,000 miles since it’s restoration.

Featured and described in the definitive Palawan Press publication ‘The Aston Martin DB4 GT’, DB4GT/0139/R has principally been used as a road car from new, with little competitive use recorded. Presented in its build colour of Sage Green, the interior re- trimmed during restoration, is in Connolly Tan Vaumol hides.

Today, 0139/R retains it’s matching to factory build records engine number, which as part of the restoration process was completely rebuilt by RSW and dyno tested, giving an impressive 365 bhp and 385 lbs/ft of torque. Fitted with suitably uprated suspension, improved braking and uprated engine cooling, performance of 0139/R can best be described as, sensational.

The detailed history file accompanying 0139/R, includes extensive period service history from Aston Martin’s own Newport Pagnell service department, during the first owner’s 17-year custodianship and includes, a copy of the manufacturer’s build record, a BMI Heritage Certificate, maintenance invoices and correspondence. A detailed account and photographic record of the restoration carried out by RSW, with engine Dynamometer print out and detailed specifications is also included within the leather-bound history file.

We are delighted to present this rare opportunity, to acquire a restored and fully run in example of the Aston Martin DB4GT which has been spared the ravages of a life in motor sport, has been comprehensively restored by renowned specialists and is in a superb condition having covered just 5,000 miles, since the restoration’s completion.
