The most powerful, four-seat convertible of its day, the British Racing Green V8 owned by HRH King Charles III, was a gift from the Emir of Bahrain, during the King’s former years as HRH The Prince of Wales in 1987. The King was heavily involved in the final specification, choosing to remove the bodykit from the original, giving the V8 a more subtle look. Thereafter known as the ‘‘Prince of Wales spec’’ 27 similar original examples were produced, one of which was ordered for Aston chairman Victor Gauntlett himself.
Here at Nicholas Mee & Co we have for sale an original, 1989, ‘PoW’ specified Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante. This superb Volante needs little introduction to a knowledgeable few, as one of just 22 Volante’s built to ‘X-Pack’ Vantage engine and chassis specification. This V8 is fitted with the discerning coachwork and interior equipment, similar to that requested by HRH King Charles III on his personal car – the first example built and supplied in 1987.
This ultimate grand touring convertible is the only right-hand drive automatic transmission example built. Finished, appropriately enough, in Windsor Blue over Magnolia hides, with matching Navy Blue piping and woven fabric hood, the specification includes discrete PoW body specifications. Delivered to its first owner, Mr Stuart Hodgson, via Aston Martin Sales in Cheval Place, London, in December 1989, Chassis No:-15834 has been known to ourselves from new, whilst being cherished and enjoyed by its discerning previous owners.
Maintained from new by Aston Martin Works, AM Main Agents, respected specialists and ourselves, this rare and exceptional car, ‘fit for a king’, has now covered only 34,000 miles from new. Recent maintenance carried out by our own workshops includes a comprehensive scheduled service and replacement of the sills.
Included with this rare and originally specified ‘PoW’ Vantage Volante, is a comprehensive history file, including the manufacturers build record card, original and stamped service voucher book, owner’s handbooks, jack, and tool roll. Supplied inclusive of 12 months warranty, MOT certificate and multi point pre-delivery inspection.
