Nicholas Mee Racing confirms assault on 2010 season
Following a podium finish in January’s Dubai 24 hour race, the battle is on for a season of class honours in endurance racing in 2010.
Announcing Nicholas Mee Racing’s 2010 programme, Team Principal Nicholas Mee said ‘With our success in winning 2009’s Aston Martin Challenge trophy under our belt, we are now looking forward to building on our success in endurance racing. For 2010, we have selected races that will offer the greatest competition at GT4 level, including, amongst other shorter events, two more 24 hour races, with the Aston Martin 24 Hour Challenge trophy in our sights’.
Starting on Saturday May 22nd NMR will be competing in the Aston Martin British GT4 Challenge at Silverstone, in a field of over 12 near identical specification Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4/N24 cars, against celebrated comedy performer Rowan Atkinson and Aston Martin Chairman David Richards. Next up NMR will be competing at the classic Spa Francorchamps circuit over the weekend of 4th-5th June in the 2.5 hour Belcar/British GT/ AM GT4 Challenge race. A number of other British teams will be competing in one of the seasons highlights. At over 7km’s in length, the Spa circuit is a favourite with drivers, with changeable conditions in the Ardennes forest being a frequent occurrence. Regular NMR drivers Christiaen van Lanschot and Karsten Le Blanc can expect stiff opposition in the GT4 class, whilst preparing for NMR’s next assault at the same circuit at the end of July.
The prestigious Spa 24 Hour race, a qualifying round of the Aston Martin 24 Hour Challenge, takes place over the weekend of 31st July and 1st August. Supported in 2010 by the new FIA GT1 World Championship, the grid of 60 GT2, GT3, and for the first time GT4 cars, in the 24 hour race is sure to read like a who’s who of GT racing. Second only to the Le Mans and Nurburgring 24 Hours in terms of crowd attendance, spectacle and prestige, the Spa endurance race will be driven by NMR Dubai 24hr drivers Shaun Lynn and Karsten Le Blanc, partnering team regular Christiaen Van Lanschot and lady racer Sarah Bennett-Baggs, who returns to the team after last year’s Britcar Silverstone 500 race.
October 1st-3rd see’s the return of the popular Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone, immortalised by Top Gear TV presenters who competed in 2007. The last qualifying round of the Aston Martin 24hr Challenge will be NMR’s final race for 2010. In the 2009 shortened 6 hour event, NMR clinched the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge. In a race that the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 has previously fared so well, achieving overall 2nd, 3rd and 5th places in 2008, NMR will fighting for both class honours and overall success within a grid of 60+ cars. NMR’s additional drivers for the season 2010 closer will be confirmed and announced shortly.
* Points already won following the Dubai 24hr race, plus any further points awarded subsequent to the Spa and Britcar 24hr races will count toward the inaugural 2010 Aston Martin-supported 24hr Challenge series.
Nicholas Mee Racing would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in participating in any of the above series or who may require race car preparation or transportation services. 2010 Partnerships with Nicholas Mee Racing are still available; contact Nicholas Mee or Neal Garrard.
